Police Detain Shooting Suspects After Brief Pursuit Near Silver Lake

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Police pursued and arrested three shooting suspects near Silver Lake shortly after 6:15 p.m. Tuesday.

The vehicle, a tan colored Lexis, dropped a male suspect off near the intersection of Union and Venice, and proceeded southbound.

The man who exited the vehicle, considered a potential suspect by LAPD, was wearing a light blue shirt, and remained at large as of 10:15 p.m.

The suspect vehicle came to a stop and the suspect evidently surrendered at 6:20 p.m.at Flower and Adams.

In total, three suspects were taken into custody.

"We have two males and one female that have been detained," LAPD Lt. John Cook said.

Police confirmed that the suspects were related to a shooting in Echo Park Tuesday.

Police presence gathered around an apartment complex, where it was believed the fourth suspect, who exited the vehicle and ran on foot, may have barricaded himself.

The shooting occurred at a smoke shop shortly before the pursuit where the shop's owner, 43-year-old Manuk Khanjaryan, was shot in the leg during an apparent robbery.

Khanjaryan, the father of two, was taken to the hospital in critical condition after losing a large amount of blood.

Police say the robbery started with the female suspect entering the store to case it out. After she returned to the vehicle, one of the men, armed with a firearm, entered the store and demanded jewelry.

Authorities say that Khanjaryan complied, but was shot anyway.

"At least he's OK, and that's a little relief, but not as much," Zara Kodzhanyan, the victim's sister in law, said. "This shouldn't have happened at all."

Khanjaryan was in surgery on Tuesday afternoon, maintaining a critical condition.
