Man Accused Of Posing As Amazon Employee To Kidnap Woman To Appear In Court
CHINO HILLS (CBSLA.com) — A Riverside man accused of posing as an Amazon employee to lure a woman looking for work is scheduled to appear in court Monday.
Aaron Misael Viteri Vera, 22, was arrested last week after a 19-year-old woman came forward saying he had kidnapped her.
Chino Hills police say the two met on the mobile phone app "Meet Me," which connects people for professional and personal relationships.
They say Vera created an account under the pseudonym Jay Delgado and contacted the victim about a job at an Amazon warehouse.
After corresponding for weeks on the app and via text message, he allegedly asked her to meet him over lunch at Subway to discuss a potential job.
On Feb. 26, investigators say the victim met him at the sandwich shop and he said he'd rather eat at a nearby Wendy's. He offered to drive them both there and she got into his vehicle.
Vera allegedly got on a freeway and took the victim's phone. She told investigators once she realized they weren't going to Wendy's they got into a brief struggle.
He began to slow down the car and she tried to jump out.
Vera allegedly grabbed her by the waist of her pants but she still managed to leap from the car and run.
The victim immediately contacted police about the incident and law enforcement arrested Vera at his Riverside home on Wednesday.
Detectives say Vera had documents listing the names of other women and had opened several profiles on multiple social media sites.
