MORENO VALLEY (CBSLA.com) — The public's help is needed Monday to track down a woman authorities say struck a 3-year-old child, then fled the accident scene in Moreno Valley.

The accident happened at about 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Atwood Avenue and Indian Street, Moreno Valley police officials said.

When officers arrived minutes later, they found a 3-year-old child had been struck by a car that fled the scene. The child, whose gender and name were not disclosed, was taken to Riverside Community Regional Medical Center. Police say the child was treated at the hospital and released.

Witnesses told investigators the driver stopped, got out of her car and appeared to be concerned about the child, before fleeing the scene, police said.

The driver was described as an older black woman, wearing a yellow shirt and white pants. The vehicle was described as an older model red or maroon GMC Yukon.

Police say the driver possibly resides in the area of Atwood and Indian Street.

Anyone with information about the accident can contact Moreno Valley police Officer Del Real at (951) 486-6900.
