Campaign 2015: Breakdown Of L.A. City Primary Election Results

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The unofficial results from Los Angeles' primary election are in and appear to show that less than 9 percent of registered voters cast a ballot Tuesday.

According to the Los Angeles City Clerk's website, Jose Huizar won Council District 14, defeating former Los Angeles County Supervisor Gloria Molina and three other contenders, with more than 65 percent of the votes.

Paul Krekorian, Nury Martinez, Marqueece Harris-Dawson, Herb Wesson Jr. and Mitch Englander attained more than 50 percent of Tuesday's votes, winning seats in council districts 2, 6, 8, 10 and 12, respectively.

Of the 14 contenders vying for Council District 4, no one candidate received more than 50 percent of the vote.

According to the Los Angeles Times, that district may face a runoff election in May; however, a runoff would still depend upon mail-in and provisional ballots that are still being counted, according to the publication.

Other issues on the ballot included Charter Amendments 1 and 2, which both passed by more than 76 percent of the votes. The amendments will change elections in the city of L.A. and the LAUSD to even-number years beginning in the year 2020.
