Residents Brace For Heavy Rain, Snow Across SoCal
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory that includes heavy rain and now in the forecast on Saturday.
According to meteorologists, colder air will move in by the afternoon, and rain will turn showery with the potential for isolated thunderstorms and small hail.
The rain has already caused problems on roadways in Pomona.
According to police, a crash on the northbound 71 Freeway shut down lanes around 2:00 a.m., after a vehicle knocked over a light pole and damaged rails on the freeway.
In Glendora, KCAL9's Joy Benedict said residents are bracing for heavy rain and possibly mudslides.
Town officials have been adding sandbags and k-rails in anticipation of the rainfall.
However, Glendora is not the only town that could experience mud or debris flows.
Any recent burn area that experiences heavy rain should prepare for minor flows.
According to the NWS, the heaviest period of snow is expected to fall from Saturday night through Sunday night. Snow showers are then expected to decrease, and become scattered by Monday morning.
Authorities warned anyone planning to travel into or through the mountains to use caution while driving, and prepare for snow covered roads with limited visibility.
The advisory will remain in effect from 4:00 p.m. Saturday to 4:00 a.m. Monday, officials explained.
