Police: Serial Sexual Battery Suspect Arrested In Fullerton

FULLERTON (CBSLA.com) — A serial sexual battery suspect has been arrested in Fullerton, police announced Wednesday.

Jose Afredo Gradilla-Cuevas, 21, was arrested Wednesday.

Authorities believe he was responsible for at least seven reported incident of sexual battery that took place near Cal State Fullerton.

All of the incidents occurred between Aug. 2014 and February of this year during the hours of 5 p.m. and 9 p.m.

"In each case, the suspect approached the female victims from behind and sexually battered them by grabbing private part of their bodies. The suspect would then immediately flee the area," Sgt. Kathryn Hamel said.

None of the victims were injured.

During the search for the suspect, detectives located Gradilla-Cuevas driving a vehicle similar to one captured on video near a previous assault.

Police began following the suspect for several weeks where "Gradilla-Cuevas was seen stalking dozens of potential victims in Fullerton, Placentia and La Habra," said Hamel.

On Wednesday night, detectives saw Gradilla-Cuevas watching a woman walking eastbound near Nutwood and Placentia avenues.

"Gradilla-Cuevas quickly parked and exited his vehicle. He then ran up behind the lone female victim and slapped her buttocks," added Hamel.

He fled the area on foot and was later arrested by police.

Officials believe there may be more victims in the area. Anyone with information should contact Det. C. Wright at (714)738-6754.
