Infants To Return To SaMo High School Daycare After Measles Scare

SANTA MONICA (CBSLA.com) — More than a dozen infants exposed to a baby with measles at a Santa Monica day care center will be allowed to return to the facility Monday.

Officials at Santa Monica High School closed the daycare in early February after confirming an infant had measles. It reopened a few days later to children who had proof of immunization and were not at risk.

The 14 babies barred from the facility were under a year old and too young to be vaccinated. Officials advised parents to keep the children home for 21 days in order to determine if they were exposed to the disease.

"The non-immunized infants will be allowed to return on Monday, and that's per the direction of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health," Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District spokeswoman Gail Pinsker said.

The infant who contracted measles has recovered and has also been cleared to return to the center, she said. No other measles cases connected to the center have been reported.

There are 123 reported measles cases in California.
