Man Arrested For Allegedly Stealing Property From Unlocked Vehicles In OC

IRVINE (CBSLA.com) — A 19-year-old man was arrested Sunday for allegedly stealing items from multiple unlocked vehicles.

According to the Irvine Police Department, officers were sent just before 3:00 a.m. to Winterfield for report of a burglary in progress.

When officers arrived, they spotted Matthew Kozlov, of Anaheim Hills, running through several properties. He was located in a nearby backyard, and was taken into custody without incident.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Kozlov ransacked and stole items from a parked vehicle inside the victim's garage.

Police said they believed he made entry to the garage by using a garage door opener, which he allegedly stole from the victim's second car that was parked in the driveway.

Stolen property was recovered from at least three additional vehicle thefts.

Authorities explained the property was stolen from unlocked vehicles on Winterfield, Copperleaf and Windarbor.

Kozlov is being held on $50,000 at the Orange County Jail for residential burglary, possession of stolen property, petty theft, and resisting/obstructing officers.

Police urged residents to remove valuable items from view in vehicles, and to always close windows and lock doors of any vehicle left unattended.

Anyone with information regarding this arrest should contact the Irvine Police Department at (949) 724-7200.
