Oscar Will Need An Umbrella: Light Rain Forecast During This Sunday's Academy Awards

HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — Stars planning to attend this Sunday's Academy Awards might need a different sort of accessory for the red carpet – an umbrella.

There's a 40 percent chance some rain will be falling in Hollywood Sunday night, although it may just be a steady, mist-like drizzle, National Weather Service meteorologist Ryan Kittell said.

"I would definitely plan for something to be falling from the sky," Kitell said.

The NWS is showing a 40 percent chance of showers in the area Sunday. But Kittell said the precipitation will not be heavy.

"I don't think we're going to have a downpour," he said. "...It looks like it's going to be cool and moist."

A portion of the 500-foot-long red carpet leading into the Dolby Theatre is tented, so the stars will have some protection.

There's only a 10 percent chance of rain on Saturday, Kittell said. The odds increase dramatically on Sunday evening into Monday.

Kittell said heavier rain is possible in valley and foothill areas. Outside the Dolby Theatre, however, the wet stuff will be relatively light, but steady.

"There's a good chance for some steady, light drizzle," he said.

The wet weather is expected to move out of the area by Tuesday.
