Military-Style Helicopter Falls Off Big Rig In Mojave Desert; Turns Out To Be Movie Prop

HESPERIA (CBSLA.com/AP) — A helicopter being towed behind a semi struck a freeway overpass and crashed into lanes, hitting at least two vehicles in the Mojave Desert.

The crash happened around 6:55 a.m. Friday morning on the southbound Interstate 15 in Fontana, just south of Duncan Canyon Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The military-style helicopter landed upright partially on the shoulder, with its broken overhead rotors slumped onto the asphalt, the Associated Press reported.

The CHP says at least two cars were hit by the copter. The extent of the damage to the vehicles and the overpass wasn't immediately known.

According to Caltrans, the helicopter is a movie prop and is completely hollow inside.

No injuries were reported.

Traffic returned to normal shortly before 8:30 a.m.
