More Victims Sought In Illegal OC Silicone Injection Case

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — Authorities Monday were looking for more possible victims of a man charged with illegally performing cosmetic surgeries which resulted in the death of a transgender woman.

Liborio de la Luiz Ramos, 44, was arrested Thursday in the death Katya de la Riva on Jan. 21, the Santa Ana Police Department said.

Authorities said de la Riva went to an underground injection party at an Orange hotel in late December and had silicone injected into her buttocks for cosmetic reasons.

"This was apparently Ramos' business," Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said.

"At the time of the crime, Ramos is accused of having no medical license or authorization to perform medical or surgical procedures in California," the Orange County District Attorney's Office added.

On Jan. 1, de la Riva admitted herself into Kaiser Hospital in Irvine because of a respiratory problem. She died Jan. 21 of an embolism related to the silicone injection.

Also on Jan. 1, Ramos allegedly illegally injected "a 28-year-old victim with silicone" at his Santa Ana home.

Ramos was being held on $500,000 bail and was expected to be arraigned Monday.

Anyone with information should contact SAPD Det. Jim Garcia at (714)245-8390.
