San Bernardino County Reports First 2 Flu-Related Deaths

SAN BERNARDINO (CBSLA.com) — Two people in San Bernardino County have died of flu-related symptoms, health officials confirmed Thursday.

According to the San Bernardino County Department of Public Health, both adults had underlying medical condition, although one was fully vaccinated. Both adults were from the High Desert area.

There have been a total of nine flu-related deaths statewide as of Jan. 24, according to the California Department of Public Health.

Health officials say flu activity is on the uptick, including increasing reports of hospitalizations and severe disease, but it hasn't yet peaked in California.

Flu symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, muscle or body aches, headaches and fatigue. Health officials say people can avoid getting the flu by coughing or sneezing into an elbow or tissue, avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth, wash hands often with soap and water and avoid close contact with other people who are sick.
