5 Injured In Fiery South Pasadena Rollover Accident

SOUTH PASADENA (CBSLA.com) — Police investigated the circumstances surrounding a fiery crash on Sunday that injured five occupants traveling inside the vehicle.

According to the South Pasadena Police Department, officers were sent around 1:55 a.m. to the area of Fair Oaks Avenue, near Huntington Drive, for report of a traffic accident with injuries.

Once on scene, police located an overturned vehicle on Huntington Drive that caught had caught on fire.

A preliminary investigation revealed the driver of the vehicle failed to make a left turn onto Huntington Drive, and struck the center median.

Authorities went on to explain the vehicle then hit a mailbox, sheared a fire hydrant on the sidewalk. The vehicle narrowly missed hitting a tree before it collided into a sign and wall, flipped over, and landed on its roof.

Four adult females, including the driver, were able to escape from the vehicle after one of the victims kicked out a passenger window in the back seat.

Officers used a baton to break the front passenger window, and rescued an unconscious male from the burning vehicle when they arrived on scene.

All five victims were transported to a hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The driver is being questioned, and may be charged for felony DUI and causing injuries to her four passengers.

No arrests or citations have been made yet.
