Students Evacuated Due To Bomb Threat At South Hills High School In West Covina

WEST COVINA (CBSLA.com) — Two West Covina campuses were evacuated Friday after a high school received a telephonic bomb threat.

The incident began sometime around 12:45 p.m. when a threat was called in to South Hills High School, 645 South Barranca Street, officials said.

Students at the school as well as the nearby Mesa Elementary School were evacuated to Barranca Elementary School where parents were instructed to pick them up.

Cameron Avenue at Inman Road, Barranca Street at Cortez Street and Cameron Ave. at Barranca St. were closed during the investigation, according to police.

Police and a sheriff's bomb squad searched both campuses, which were determined to be free of any danger at 3:55 p.m. The campuses and nearby streets were reopened at that point, officials said.

South Hills High School has been in the news lately after several cases of suspected teacher misconduct.

A meeting was held Thursday by school administrators for parents to address the Jan. 17 arrest of two teachers accused of having sex with students during a camping trip.

Days before the women were taken into custody, a part-time wrestling coach was arrested on suspicion of inappropriate conduct with a student.

On Jan. 21, an art teacher was placed on administrative leave after a former student filed a lawsuit claiming he was attacked in the classroom.

Friday's bomb threat was being investigated by the West Covina Police Department.
