Police Investigating Street Racing In Wilmington Crash That Killed 2 Teens

WILMINGTON (CBSLA.com) — Police Friday believe a possible street racing between high school students resulted in a deadly crash that killed two teens and injured two others.

The accident happened around 3:15 p.m. Thursday on Pacific Coast Highway, near Island Avenue, in Wilmington,

The coroner identified the victims as 18-year-old Elexis Garcia and 17-year-old Eli Garcia, both Banning High School students. Friends said the two were brother and sister.

Lexi was reportedly driving her boyfriend's red Honda with her brother in the passenger seat and two other female students in the backseat. Police said their car and another truck were traveling in the wrong direction westbound on PCH when Garcia lost control and veered into a van.

Both Elexis and Eli Garcia were declared at the scene.

"Two people who are super kind hearted, and Lexi was sweetheart, and Eli was one of the coolest dudes to meet. He was really friendly,"friend Ronald Morales said.

The two female passengers were hospitalized in unknown condition. Police were looking for the dark-colored truck involved in the accident and believe the driver was a student.

Witnesses helped police identify that driver and said the suspect ditched the truck at their home and returned to crash site. Authorities have not released the suspect's name or potential charges.

Mourners set up a memorial for the siblings on PCH.
