Convicted Killer Charged With Murders Of 2 Women, Fetus

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A man serving 110 years to life for murdering a teenage runaway in Hollywood is scheduled to be arraigned Monday on three new capital murder charges for killing two women, one of whom was pregnant, the District Attorney's Office announced Friday.

Gilton Pitre, 42, is charged with the Jan. 31, 2004, murder of a 20-year-old woman identified only as Irma A., who was eight months pregnant when she was killed. The third murder charge involves the woman's fetus.

The murder charges include the special circumstance allegations of multiple murders and murder without a prior murder conviction. Prosecutors will decide later whether to seek the death penalty.

Pitre was convicted in May 2010 of first-degree murder and unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor. The body of 15-year-old Alyssa Gomez was found wrapped in a bedspread from the Olive Motel and dumped in an alley about a mile away. The teen had been strangled.

Footage from a surveillance camera showed Pitre walking with a female into one of the rooms at about 11:15 p.m. on June 3, 2007, and carrying a large covered object from his room and putting it in the trunk of his car about five hours later.

In sentencing Pitre to the 110-year-to-life term in July 2010, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Kathleen Kennedy said the sentence was designed to ensure that he was never released and "doesn't have the chance to do this to somebody else."
