Big Rig Driver Killed In Fiery Crash On 10 Freeway In Fontana
FONTANA (CBSLA.com) — The driver of a big rig was killed early Monday morning in a crash on the 10 Freeway in Fontana, officials said.
The accident happened when the semi collided with a large freeway sign around 3 a.m. just west of Citrus Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.
"The truck had split the guardrail and crashed into the large-diameter of the Citrus Avenue exit signpost," the San Bernardino County Fire Departmetn said.
Upon arrival, officers found the semi, which was carrying a load of frozen chickens, fully engulfed. The fire also spread to a nearby wash, but was knocked down in 20 minutes.
The crash also triggered several other minor collisions, but no injuries were reported.
A SigAlert was issued and all lanes were blocked at Sierra Avenue. Officials opened two lanes around 5:30 a.m., but it was unclear when the freeway would fully reopen.

The unidentified driver of the big rig died at the scene.
