Delta Flight Headed To Orlando From LAX Diverts Due To 'Security Concern'
LOS ANGELES (CBS/AP) — A Delta flight headed to Orlando from LAX Sunday was diverted to Dallas-Fort Worth due to a "security concern."
Officials did not outline what the actual concern was on flight 1061. The plane left Los Angeles just before 10:30 a.m.
Meanwhile, two planes were evacuated on arrival at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport due to what a spokesman called a "security concern."
One of those planes originated from the Southland.
Sea-Tac Airport spokesman Perry Cooper says a JetBlue flight from Long Beach and a regional SkyWest jet from Phoenix were the planes involved. The flights arrived late Sunday afternoon.
"I fly all over the world, and I've never really been bothered by bomb threats and things like that," traveler Kelly Lozano said. "But after nine-eleven, you kind of need to take it seriously."
Cooper said that out of an abundance of caution, passengers were bused to their gates from the airport's third runway. He said the matter was under investigation and he did not have further details.
The evacuations come a day after bomb threats targeted two jets bound for Atlanta, prompting F-16 fighter jets to escort the planes. Saturday's threats targeted Southwest Airlines Flight 2492, which arrived at Atlanta from Milwaukee; and Delta Air Lines Flight 1156, which arrived from Portland, Oregon.
The threats for the Atlanta-bound flights came over Twitter.
"It just says a lot about the world that we live in, that people are obviously scanning Twitter for bomb threats, and people are obviously looking for them," one traveler said. "So, eventually, you're going to get this situation."
The FBI released a statement on Sunday, saying:
"The FBI is aware of recent online threatening statements and is assessing the matter with our law enforcement and airline partners as we do with all stated threats. Currently, there is no known threat to any aircraft that departed from the Los Angeles area."
