Street Closures Anticipated Ahead Of Vice President Joe Biden's Visit To LA

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — With Vice President Joe Biden in town, authorities are recommending drivers avoid dozens of areas in Los Angeles and Burbank throughout his three-day visit.

Biden will arrive in the Los Angeles area Thursday afternoon for several appearances, including a reported visit with The Ellen DeGeneres Show in Burbank, a Friday visit to West Los Angeles College in Ladera Heights, and a stop Saturday in Irvine to deliver remarks to the Patient Safety, Science & Technology Summit.

Between 4 and 7 p.m., motorists should avoid the area around Sherman Way and Vineland Avenue, North Hollywood Way and Alameda Avenue, and Olive Avenue and Hollywood Way. Drivers should avoid Alameda Avenue and westbound 134 (Ventura) Freeway between 5:30 and 7 p.m. Between 5 and 8 p.m., drivers should also avoid the south 405 (San Diego) Freeway and Santa Monica Boulevard, Santa Monica and Westwood boulevards and Santa Monica and Wilshire boulevards.

Authorities say there will be hard street closures at Forest Lawn and North Pass Avenue starting at 4 p.m. till at least 8 p.m., and at Rodeo Drive between Wilshire Boulevard and Charleville Boulevard starting at 1 p.m. Thursday through 1 p.m. Saturday.

MTA bus routes #720, #210 and #222 may be affected due to street closures and riders should contact the MTA for alternate locations.

On Friday, between 8:30 to 10 a.m., motorists should avoid the area around Wilshire Boulevard and Rodeo Drive, Wilshire Boulevard and Santa Monica Boulevard and Santa Monica and the south 405 (San Diego) Freeway. Between 9 a.m. and noon, drivers should avoid Jefferson Boulevard and the south 405 (San Diego) Freeway and Jefferson Boulevard and Overland Avenue. Between 10:30 a.m. and noon, motorists should stay away from Overland and Freshman drives, Westwood and Wilshire boulevards and Wilshire Boulevard and Rodeo Drive.

On Saturday, between 7:30 and 9 a.m., drivers should avoid the areas around Wilshire and Santa Monica boulevards, Santa Monica and the north 405 (San Diego) Freeway and Pass Avenue. Between 8 and 9:30 a.m., avoid the areas around Pass Avenue and the 134 (Ventura) Freeway, Verdugo Avenue and Hollywood Way, Hollywood Way and Vanowen Street, and Vineland and Sherman Way.
