LAPD Nabs Reckless Driving Suspect After Wild Chase Around Hollywood

GLENDALE (CBSLA.com)  —  Police pursued a reckless driving suspect Thursday evening on the 2 Freeway in Glendale to Hollywood.

The chase started around 8:35 p.m., according to authorities.

The driver exceeded 100 mph, officials said.

Around 9 p.m., the driver got out of the car in the Hollywood area. After a few minutes, the suspect ran back to the vehicle and eluded police after backing out of a narrow street.

Sky9 reporter Stu Mundel said the suspect had been driving recklessly and erratically.

Mundel said officers on the ground chose to pull back on the erratic driver, citing public safety concerns.

The suspect was closely monitored by LAPD and Burbank police by air.

On Santa Monica Boulevard in Hollywood, the driver made several U-turns and barreled through crosswalks.

Just after 9 p.m., the suspect drove through several intersections, narrowly missing other vehicles.

After driving a few more minutes, he got out of the car again. After about a minute on foot, officers approached and demanded the suspect go to his knees.

The suspect was taken into custody just before 9:05 p.m.

"It was crazy," said Mundel, "that there were no injuries as crazy as he was driving."
