NFL Investigation: 11 Of 12 Footballs Used By Patriots In AFC Championship Were Under-Inflated
FOXBOROUGH, MASS (CBSLA.com) — A league investigation suggests the New England Patriots played with deflated footballs during their big 45-7 win in the AFC Championship over the Indianapolis Colts.
The development was first reported by ESPN's Chris Mortensen.
The NFL had launched an investigation into the matter after allegations that the Patriots played with the advantage of deflated footballs, which may have the effect of making them easier to grip.
ESPN reports that 11 of New England's 12 provided footballs were under-inflated.
Professional-grade footballs need to be inflated to between 12.5 to 13.5 PSI. It is suggested that the under-inflated footballs were as much as two PSI under that, according to league sources.
Patriots quarterback Tom Brady had brushed off the investigation, stating that it was the least of his worries.
