17-Year-Old Arrested In Child Molestation At Highland Daycare

HIGHLAND (CBSLA.com) — A 17-year-old male remained in custody Tuesday in the molestion of several children at his parents'daycare center.

According to the Highland Police Department, on Saturday, the parents of a 3-year-old boy notified officers about their child being sexually abused while he was cared for at Sarita's Family Daycare, a licensed in-home daycare center in the 25400 block of Fleming Street.

The victim's parents went on to explain to officers that the son of the daycare owner committed several acts of sexual abuse to their son.

According to detectives, interviews provided evidence that the daycare owner's son sexually abused at least three children, on several occasions, while they were in his care.

During the times of the abuse, the suspect was left unsupervised with the children inside the home.

On Sunday, the suspect, described as a Hispanic resident of Highland, was arrested in multiple sex crimes. He was booked into the San Bernardino Juvenile Hall.

His name is being withheld due to his age.

KCAL9's Crystal Cruz explained it is up to the district attorney's office to determine if the daycare owner faces charges. The fate of the daycare remaining open for business is in the hands of state officials.

The investigation is ongoing, as other children in the daycare may be possible victims as well.
