Suspect Arrested, Officer Injured Following Pursuit, Shooting In Long Beach

LONG BEACH (CBSLA.com) — A suspect was arrested Saturday after leading officers on a pursuit that terminated in San Pedro.

According to the Long Beach Police Department, officers were sent around 2:00 a.m. to a home located in the 6500 block of East Rosebay Street to investigate a shooting that involved a male suspect, related to a domestic dispute.

Officers explained around 2:50 a.m., the suspect returned to the scene and was confronted by officers. Around that time, gunfire was exchanged between the suspect and officers.

Authorities reported the suspect was able to return to his vehicle and flee, which subsequently led to a police pursuit.

When they reached the area of Bandini Street, near Oliver Street in San Pedro, a second exchange of gunfire is believed to have occurred, officers said.

The pursuit ended in the area, and the suspect was taken into custody without injury.

One officer was transported to a hospital for treatment injuries caused from what is believed to be glass fragments from his patrol vehicle window.

According to police, officers learned the suspect had his 5-month-old infant with him in the vehicle during the pursuit. They explained the infant was not injured, and was taken into protective custody.

The investigation is ongoing.
