Carjacking Suspect Nabbed While Trying To Escape Police Custody During Transfer

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com)  —  Authorities say a male carjacking suspect was apprehended while attempting to flee during a prisoner transfer Friday evening.

Officials said James Moore attempted to escape while inmates were being off-loaded at the Inmate Reception Center.

While conducting a head count of inmates who were off-loaded, deputies discovered they were one short.

At the same time, deputies said they heard a radio broadcast about an inmate running across the compound.

Deputies ran after the inmate. Officials said when Moore refused to comply with orders to stop he was taken to the ground and handcuffed.

A deputy was treated at a local hospital for complaint of pain.

Moore was treated at the Men's Central Jail clinic also complaining about pain.

In addition to the carjacking charge, Moore will also be charged with an escape attempt.
