Survey: San Bernardino Ranked Worst City To Find A Job In 2015

SAN BERNARDINO (CBSLA.com) — San Bernardino has received the dubious honor of being the worst city in the country to find a job this year, according to a recent survey.

The survey by WalletHub looked at job opportunities and employment growth in compiling the list that also included: Moreno Valley, CA; Detroit, MI; Hialeah, FL; and Memphis, TN.

"It doesn't surprise me. San Bernardino, unfortunately, has really seen some hard days," Christy Harbour, an unemployed resident, said of the survey.

Harbour told KCAL9's Crystal Cruz she's spent plenty of time searching for work since becoming unemployed in September.

"You feel like you're stuck in a rut and we've contemplated moving out of this area," she said.

The city is currently going through bankruptcy.

"San Bernardino may be in the gutter now but we are on our way to prosperity," City Councilman Benito Barrios said.

Barrios projects that, by mid-year, the city will be out of bankruptcy and says some major projects are in the works that could help create jobs and bring businesses back.

Meanwhile, the website also ranked the top five places to find a job in 2015. They include: Seattle, WA; Des Moines, IA; Gilbert, AZ, Sioux Falls, SD; and Fremont, CA.
