Off-Duty Officer Helps Arrest 2 Suspects In Fatal Hollywood Shooting

HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — An off-duty police officer Monday was being credited with catching two men accused in a fatal Hollywood shooting.

The shooting happened at Cahuenga Boulevard and Selma Avenue just before midnight, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

"The off-duty officer and citizens observed a suspect smashing windows on a car and then confronted the victim demanding the victim's money. The suspect shot the victim numerous times," officials said.

The officer and several citizens then followed the suspects until a patrol unit arrived.

Officers arrested the two suspects and recovered a gun.

The unidentified victim, described as a black man between 55 and 60 years old, died at a local hospital just after 2 a.m., the LAPD said.

A motive was not released.
