Caught On Video: Thief Breaks Into More Than 30 Cars In North Hollywood

NORTH HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — A thief put a damper on the new year for dozens of North Hollywood residents after he broke into their cars, stealing their valuables and holiday gifts.

Two side-by-side gated apartment buildings on Otsego Street were targeted early Friday, according to property manager Arsen Chokekcheyian.

At least 30 cars were ransacked.

"I know some creep has my daughter's gifts, which is pretty uneasy," resident Gino Denali said. "It's not just my stuff. It's other families that are victims right now. And if you don't catch him today he'll do it to somebody else tomorrow."

Residents came down to the parking garages to find broken glass all over the floor and smashed car windows.

A woman living there had taken off her wedding band for work and forgotten it in her vehicle's center console. The thief made off with that, too: "Sad because it was something important for us."

Chokekcheyian says he's glad he recently installed security cameras because they captured the suspect, a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt, jeans and backpack.

LAPD asks anyone who recognizes the suspect in the security video to contact them.
