Body Of Infant Found Near Trash Bin In Colton
COLTON (CBSLA.com) — Authorities Friday asked for the public's help in providing information relating to the death of a newborn whose body was found in San Bernardino County.
Colton police said officers received a call about 11:36 a.m. regarding an infant wrapped in a blanket found near a trash bin in the 900 block of North 7th Street in Colton.
Once on scene, officers determined the thin blanket contained a baby boy, who was about one-week-old.
The child had a full head of hair. Both his feet were exposed to the elements.
Paramedics pronounced the newborn dead at the scene.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the infant was left at the location between the hours of 11:30 p.m. Thursday and 11:30 a.m. Friday morning.
Authorities haven't ruled out the possibility that the newborn died due to cold weather. Police at this time are treating the death as a potential homicide and want to find the child's parents.
According to the state, nearly 60 babies were safely surrendered last year. Under the law, parents can legally surrender a baby at a hospital or fire station within 72-hours of the baby's birth, no questions asked.
Anyone with information about this case was urged to call detectives at (909) 370-5021 as the investigation is ongoing.
