Only On 2: La Sierra Mail Theft Suspect Caught On Security Camera

RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) — A man was caught on camera stealing mail from a residential neighborhood in La Sierra on Christmas morning.

The video shows the suspect tampering with one mailbox, and then biking across the street to do the same to another property.

Now, neighbors are trying to sort out what may have been stolen from their mailboxes.

CBS2's Tom Wait spoke with resident Gordon James, who reported at least 30 mailboxes were left open with mail hanging out in the area.

"It's shocking because he's so nonchalant about it," James added.

Resident Christopher Mullican took to Facebook on Thursday, posting an image from surveillance video to a Riverside County public page, stating:

"When I got home this morning from work, around 5:00 a.m., all the mailboxes in my neighborhood, off of Cochran and Grimsby, were open with mail hanging out, including ours."

Mullican went on to say he checked video from surveillance cameras located on the property, and saw the suspect committing the crime.

Officials have not yet released a description of the suspect accused of stealing mail from the area.

They do have a copy of the surveillance video, and hope the public will help identify the suspect.
