Police, Firefighters In Covina Buy Christmas Presents For Family Of 6 Robbed Of Gifts

COVINA (CBSLA.com) — Police and county firefighters in Covina often team up to save lives.

On this Christmas holiday, the two teamed up -- and opened up their own wallets -- to buy Christmas gifts for a family of six that had their presents stolen -- along with their green Honda.

Covina Police responded at 6:25 a.m. Wednesday to a report of a vehicle stolen in front of a residence in the 400 block of West Front Street.

Inside the vehicle's trunk were the Christmas gifts for the family, including children 7 weeks, 4, 8 and 10 years old, said Covina Police Sgt. Greg Peterson.

Covina police officers and Los Angeles County Fire Department Station 154 firefighters teamed up to replace the family's stolen gifts and toys, Peterson said.

"The gifts and toys were delivered to the victim family by midnight on Christmas Eve to ensure the children had gifts under the tree and the family could enjoy their holiday," the police sergeant said.

Home video captured he moment police and firefighters delivered gifts to the family.

"Surreal. Yeah. I don't know what else to say," says Josh Roffeis.

He got choked up talking about the look on his kids' faces when they opened the door and saw Christmas presents.

He and his wife had saved up all year to get their kids Christmas wishes.

"It was a trunk full of presents for the kids including my kids and my wife's sister and niece," he told KCAL's Brittney Hopper.

He and his wife are very appreciative of what the police and firefighters did for his kids.

"They were able to come through for us in a big way," Roffeis says.

Authorities asked anyone with any info regarding the stolen vehicle to call (626) 384-5628.
