Grand Theft Auto Victim Receives Free Car For Holidays In Victorville

VICTORVILLE (CBSLA.com) — A woman who had her car stolen at a shopping center received quite the holiday surprise Friday afternoon.

According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, America Delacruz was shopping at the Dunia Plaza Shopping Center on Oct. 9, when she realized her 1991 Honda Civic had been stolen.

In November, employees of Air Express Tow contacted the Victorville Station in search of a needy family or person to give a vehicle to for the holidays.

As a ploy to surprise Delacruz, deputies explained a press conference was held on Friday to warn the public of the increase of vehicle burglaries during the holiday season.

She was identified as she left her job at JCPenny, and was surprised with the vehicle during the press conference.

Officials explained Air Express Tow paid for all DMV fees and taxes for the vehicle transfer in her name.

To date, Delacruz's stolen vehicle has not been recovered.
