Girl, 14, In Extremely Critical Condition After Palmdale Shooting

PALMDALE (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say a shooting investigation is underway in Palmdale after a 14-year-old girl was wounded.

The car-to-car shooting unfolded about 1:20 p.m. Friday in the area of 17th Street East and Avenue R, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said in a written statement.

Authorities said the girl was seated in the front passenger's seat of a vehicle, which continued to the 37800 block of Melton Avenue, where authorities were alerted to a "gunshot victim" call.

"The gunshot grazed the driver of the victim's vehicle and then struck the front passenger, who was a 14-year-old female," said Lt. Dave Dobson of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The girl was taken to Antelope Valley Hospital in extremely critical condition. The condition of the second injured party was not known.

"Several hours later, Palmdale deputies in search of the suspect's vehicle saw a vehicle they believed matched the description, stopped that vehicle," the lieutenant said.

Three individuals were detained for questioning but no arrests have been made.

Authorities said the shooting was possibly gang-related.

Anyone with information about this case was asked to contact the Sheriff's Department Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
