Driver Charged With DUI In Alhambra Crash That Injured 15

ALHAMBRA (CBSLA.com) — Criminal charges were filed Wednesday against a Los Angeles man who police say drunkenly rear-ended a minivan, knocking it into a crowd of people looking at Christmas lights in Alhambra.

Ismael Soto, 28, was charged with one felony count each of driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury within 10 years of two other offenses and driving with a 0.08 percent blood-alcohol content causing injury within 10 years of two other offenses; along with one misdemeanor count each of driving on a suspended license and driving with a vehicle not equipped with a required ignition interlock device.

According to the criminal complaint, Soto drove at an excessive speed while he had a blood-alcohol content of more than 0.20 percent and that more than one person suffered great bodily injury.

Soto was previously convicted in 2013 of DUI and was driving on a revoked license, according to the complaint.

Alhambra police said Soto drove his pickup north on Fremont Avenue about 8:40 p.m. Sunday, crossed over the double yellow line and struck two occupied minivans parked on the south side of the street. One of the minivans went over the curb and into the driveway of a home, striking the pedestrians.

People said 15 people were injured, including Soto.
