Demonstrators In Melrose District Protest ‘McMansions In L.A.’

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Residents in the Melrose District Sunday protested what they’re calling mega-mansions in Los Angeles.

A picket line was set-up outside of a new home in the 700 block of N. Vista Street which some claim towers over much smaller residences nearby and isn’t energy-efficient.

Demonstrators say they timed their protest to coincide with the realtor’s open-house of the residence.

“It’s much too large and out of character with the neighborhood,” one protester said. “We’re trying to just raise awareness of the issue and put a stop to this type of development in these neighborhoods.”

The owner of the home being picketed was not available for comment.
