Nonprofits Are Offering New Careers For L.A.'s Job Market

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com)  —  Let's get to work, Los Angeles!

CBS News Business Analyst  Jill Schlesinger offers advice on where to, and how to, look for employment.

On Dec. 11 , she took a look at the burgeoning world of nonprofits.

"If you've always wanted to work for an organization," reported Schlesinger, "that is guided by a larger cause or goal, then a career in the nonprofit sector might make sense for you."

With 10.7 million employees, growing nonprofits are now the third largest industry, behind retail and manufacturing.

She also reported that in the coming year, nearly half of all nonprofits said they would be creating positions.

Schlesinger also recommended relying on an informal network for hiring. She suggested started with checking out the Eli and Edythe Broad Foundation. She also recommended the jobs page on the Chronicle of Philanthropy's website.
