FBI Visits Sony Studios After Massive Cyber Attack

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Representatives from the FBI are scheduled to visit Sony Studios Wednesday to provide cyber-security training to shell-shocked employees.

A massive cyber attack on Sony Pictures Entertainment could cost upwards of $100 million, and leaked all manner of proprietary information online, including social security numbers, salaries, email addresses, fake names used by some celebrities, even some new movies.

In a memo floating around, Sony officials are calling it an unprecedented and highly sophisticated attack, KNX 1070's Jon Baird reports.

Sony employees won't talk about the cyber attack, but people hanging out at a nearby Starbucks say it was unbelievable.

"The way the technology… and the hacking they can do, is frightening," one man said.

Another woman put it simply. "It's pretty scary," she said.

The FBI won't confirm the specific training for Sony employees, but a spokesperson says the agency routinely helps companies with cybersecurity awareness.
