Police Pursue DUI Suspect Up To 100 MPH On Southland Freeways

WESTMINSTER (CBSLA.com) — Police are following a suspected DUI driver who's fleeing at speeds up to 100 mph on Southland freeways.

It began around 10 p.m. near the 605 and 405 freeways when California Highway Patrol reportedly tried to pull over the suspect for driving erratically.

Officers have continued to follow the driver's silver Hyundai, with a Texas license plate, on the 405 through Westchester, West Los Angeles and up into the San Fernando Valley.

At 10:35 p.m., the driver reached the end of the 405 and got on the northbound 5 Freeway, leading a line of police cars through the Newhall Pass and Castaic.

The driver kept switching the headlights off in an apparent effort to evade officers, however unsuccessful. Patrol cars at around 10:55 p.m. kept following him into the Grapevine, out of the range of the SKY2 helicopter.

The suspect made it to Bakersfield, where the vehicle was stopped by a spike strip.

CHP took the driver into custody.
