No-Burn Alert Takes Effect Monday For Parts Of SoCal

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Officials are issuing a no-burn alert Monday for residents in greater Los Angeles, Orange County and the Inland Empire.

The alert for the South Coast Basin prohibits residents from burning wood due to the anticipated high concentration of fine particle air pollution.

The South Coast Air Quality Management District says the alert is expected to take effect at midnight and will remain in place for a 24-hour period, according to a written statement.

Officials said all indoor and outdoor residential wood burning as well as the burning of manufactured fire logs will be prohibited during this period.

However, "homes that rely on wood as a sole source of heat, low-income households and those without natural gas service also are exempt," the statement said.
