Gang Member Sentenced To Life In Prison For Fatal Shooting Of Toddler, Uncle

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A gang member was sentenced Friday to life in prison without the possibility of parole for murdering a 2-year-old boy and the child's uncle in South LA three years ago, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office said.

Davion McClelland, 21, was also ordered to pay more than $11,000 in restitution.

In Septemeber, McClelland was found guilty of two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder.

According to the District Attorney, McClelland and a friend were riding their bikes on May 23, 2011 when one of the two men opened fire on two rival gang members.

"The shots missed their intended targets, but one of the bullets struck and killed Joshua Montes and his uncle, Josefat Canchola, outside the family's South Los Angeles home," the DA's office said in a statement.

The boy was in his uncle's arms when they were shot.
