Police: Suspect Stabbed Man In Hands At Irvine ATM Before Fleeing With Cash

IRVINE (CBSLA.com) — Police sought the public's help Wednesday in providing information regarding two robberies that took place outside banks in Irvine.

According to the Irvine Police Department, officers were sent around 6:50 p.m. to a U.S. Bank in the 4100 block of Barranca Parkway after receiving a phone call from a female victim who reported she was robbed.

The victim explained to officers that she was carrying a bank bag containing only paperwork when the suspect pushed her from behind and took off with the bag.

Police said no weapon was used during the first robbery, and the victim did not sustain any injuries.

Around 7:15 p.m., officers were sent to the 4500 block of Barranca Parkway after receiving a phone call from a male victim who reported he was robbed and injured while using a Wells Fargo Bank drive-through ATM.

He told officers the suspect threatened to kill him, and stabbed him in the hands with a knife before fleeing with stolen cash.

It was unclear how much money was taken during this crime.

Authorities said the victim drove himself to a hospital for treatment of stab wounds to his hands and wrist.

Detectives described the suspect as a white male in his 20s with light eyes and shaggy, dirty-blonde hair. He is no taller than 5-foot-10.

The suspect was seen wearing a dark, hooded jacket and a dark mask, which covered his nose and mouth during the crimes, officers reported.

It was unclear if the two robberies are related.

The investigation is ongoing.
