Former LA County Sheriff's Deputy Gets 3 Years For Lewd Act On Teenage Girl
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A former Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy was sentenced Tuesday to three years in state prison for a lewd act with a 15-year-old girl whose family he knew socially.
John Augustus Rose II, 44, was immediately taken into custody to serve his sentence. Rose was also ordered to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
Rose, who was charged in September 2013, pleaded no contest Oct. 21 to one felony count each of committing a lewd act on a child and possession of matter depicting a minor engaging in sexual conduct. Eleven other sex-related charges against him were dismissed as a result of his plea.
At a hearing last year, Rose's attorney told a judge that the veteran deputy, who had been with the sheriff's department for more than two decades, was a "hero to the community" and recipient of many awards, including a Medal of Valor for rescuing a woman trapped in her cabin by the 2002 Curve fire in San Gabriel Canyon.
