Teen Accused Of Making Social Media Threats Against Pomona School

POMONA (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say they have arrested a teenage boy in connection with social media threats made against a high school in Pomona.

Police said the unidentified teen posted a picture Sunday night of himself with a rifle via Twitter and made a threat against his school, Diamond Ranch High School. He was taken into custody early Monday morning.

Students familiar with the suspect said the teen is on the football team and can be misunderstood at times. Some said they thought the incident was a horrible practical joke.

"He's my best friend," the suspect's friend said. "If you knew him, you would know that he never had the intent of hurting anybody. It was just a big misunderstanding, you could say."

Police and district officials have not provided details surrounding the alleged threat; however, authorities said the teen had an exchange with at least one person online.

The teen has since been charged with making criminal threats, KCAL9's Tom Wait reports. He was being held at juvenile hall.

Students were held after the final bell, and sheriff's deputies were called to the school Monday. Out of an abundance of caution, a spokesperson says some students were questioned.

A motive for the post remains unknown.
