Fred Jordan Mission Serves Nearly 3K For Thanksgiving

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The Fred Jordan Mission Thursday fed more than 2,500 people for Thanksgiving.

The mission celebrated its 70th year by cooking more than a ton of giant turkey legs, 500 pounds of mashed potatoes, 80 gallons of gravy, hundreds of pounds of traditional cornbread stuffing, 560 pounds of candied yams, 585 pounds of green beans, glazed carrots, spiced peaches, cranberry sauce and 400 pumpkin pies.

In addition to a warm meal, guests received a family food gift bag.

"This annual dinner doesn't draw only homeless, people. It also draws working families who can't afford to cook a Thanksgiving Day dinner of their own," Mission representatives said.

The Thanksgiving event began at 10 a.m. and food was served by 1,000 volunteers until 2 p.m.
