Homicide Detectives Investigating Toddler's Death In Santa Ana

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — Homicide detectives in Santa Ana are investigating the death of a 2-year-old boy.

Officers were called to a home in the 2500 block of South Linda Way just before 2 a.m. Saturday.

The boy was not breathing and was pronounced dead at the home.

Neighbors told CBS2's Greg Mills they called 911 when they heard the mother screaming in the street around 1:45 a.m.

"I  heard a lot of screaming and went to wake up my husband," said neighbor Crystal Aragon.

Another neighbor,  Margarita Rosales, told Mills she was the first of the many neighbors to reach the distressed mother who was on her knees and crawling.

"She was yelling 'Help me, please help me.' She was crawling on the street and I felt so bad."

Police tried to comfort the grieving mom.

"She was just saying 'her baby'. His face was blue. I guess something was around his neck," Aragon said.

The boy's body was found in his bedroom on the ground floor where he lived with his parents.

Another woman rents the upper level of the home. She was also questioned. Police said that woman was questioned and released.

They said the resident had nothing to do with the incident.

Saturday afternoon, police impounded a truck and car from the house while investigators went through the home.

Mills reported that the DA joined the investigation sometime Saturday afternoon.
