3 Killed, 3 Injured In Lancaster Traffic Collision

LANCASTER (CBSLA.com) — Three people have died and three others were injured in a violent traffic accident in the High Desert, authorities said.

The fatal collision involving a Jeep and a pickup truck occurred about 6:10 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Avenue K and 25th West in Lancaster.

Authorities said the Jeep was heading east and the pickup truck was traveling south when the vehicles T-boned.

Neighbors who heard the crash said the Jeep flipped and hit a utility pole as well as a tree. There were five people inside the vehicle at the time, some of whom were ejected.

Three people have died, while two others were taken to the hospital in unknown condition.

Authorities also said driver of the pickup truck, which had front-end damage, sustained minor injuries.

Following the crash, residents gathered at the scene where debris was visible far from the point of impact.

"This is a blind corner. When people run this red light, it's pretty bad. This happens, I would say, once every two weeks," said Jason Larimore, a Lancaster resident.

Debbie Calvert, another resident, said: "We were talking earlier that when we hear the screeching of tires and the crunching of metal, we grab our cups of coffee and come out here and pray that there hasn't been another life lost."

The cause of the crash was not immediately known and remained under investigation.
