Angel Stadium Food Drive Gets Fans On The Field To Hit Pitches, Catch Fly Balls

ANAHEIM (CBSLA.com) — Get a chance to swing at a pitch at the Big A this weekend for just the price of three cans of food.

The 13th annual Thanksgiving Holiday Canned Food Drive begins Friday at Angel Stadium, where donations of three cans of food or $2 will give the donor a chance to stand at home plate and swing at up to 20 pitches thrown by a pitching machine. Fans can also throw a pitch in the bullpen for two canned food items or $1 during the three-day food drive.

Looking for glory in the outfield? A $25 donation gets a fan in the outfield for 30 minutes for a chance to catch fly balls.

Bats, balls and helmets will be provided, but it is recommended that participants bring their own gear to participate in the on-field activities.

Tours of the Angels clubhouse will also be available for a $15 donation for adults and a $10 donation for children.

All proceeds collected during the food drive, which is conducted by the groundskeepers for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, will benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County in its fight against hunger during the holiday season.

The food drive is from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday, weather permitting. Participants can enter through the stadium through Gate No. 1 and proceed to the field level.

People who can't attend but want to make a donation can send checks to the Second Harvest Food Bank, 8014 Marine Way, Irvine, CA 92618.
