Strong Winds Expected Across SoCal Through Monday
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Strong winds are expected across Southwestern California through Monday morning, officials advised.
According to the National Weather Service, the wind advisory was issued around 10:00 p.m. Saturday and will remain in effect until 4:00 p.m. Sunday.
Winds may decrease throughout the day and evening, but will most likely increase again overnight through noon on Monday, National Weather Service officials added.
Officials reported damaging gusts up to 60 miles per hour will be likely throughout the mountains of Ventura and Los Angeles Counties.
Strong winds are also expected across the valley and coastal areas throughout the day.
Reduced visibility can be expected due to blowing dust from the strongest winds.
KCAL9's Joy Benedict reported outside of the Porter Ranch Fire Station, where overnight winds have already reached up to 25 to 30 miles per hour.
To take precaution, the Los Angeles County Fire Department explained they will deploy additional resources beginning at 8:00 a.m. to serve high hazard brush areas over the next 24 hours.
Additional staff will include 17 engines, a helicopter pilot, one firefighter staff assistant for each battalion and division chief and one air operations officer.
Authorities explained the anticipated increased winds and low relative humidity creates conditions that may cause brush fires to erupt.
They will be monitoring areas that have experienced brush fires in the past or have fire potential.
The City of Los Angeles may call for special parking restrictions throughout the day.
