Covered CA Bus Tour Rolls Into Downtown LA

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A bus tour through the Southland Friday signaled the start of open enrollment for Covered California.

Starting Saturday, consumers will be able to enroll for 2015 coverage through health insurance marketplaces, also known as exchanges. The marketplaces in each state will allow you to shop for plans and apply for tax credits that can greatly reduce your premiums.

KNX 1070's Charles Feldman reports consumers can also find out if they qualify for free or low-cost coverage through Medicaid as part of the "I'm In" bus tour.

Peter Lee, executive director for Covered California, said those who enrolled last time have the option to change plans now, or keep what they have.

"The bus has been stopping across California to basically give an 'Atta' boy' to the hundreds of the consumer, community, union, clinician groups out that want to make sure we leave no Californian behind," said Lee.

The tour started in Sacramento on Monday and made its way through the San Francisco Bay Area to the Central Valley, down to the Inland Empire and San Diego before heading back up to Los Angeles, after which it will travel through the Central Coast and back up to the northern part of the state.
