Victim Of Fatal Stabbing Found In Oxnard Park Near School

OXNARD (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say the victim of a fatal stabbing was found Thursday in a park in Oxnard adjacent to an elementary school.

About 8:40 a.m., authorities say emergency medical personnel were called to the 1000 block of Indigo Place for a report of a "man down."

When they arrived to Sierra Linda Park near Sierra Linda Elementary School they located the victim.

Investigators also arrived and determined that the victim had sustained fatal stab wounds, Oxnard police said in a written statement.

"There were no indications that any suspects entered the campus or at any time any of the students were in danger," the statement said.

Police have withheld the victim's name pending notification of relatives. They did say, however, that the victim was a 55-year-old male resident of Oxnard.

A motive for the killing was not known.

Police said the incident marked the seventh homicide this year in the city of Oxnard, which offers $10,000 rewards in homicide cases for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspects responsible.

Anyone who may have information related to this case was asked to call Detective Miguel Serrato at (805) 385-7688 or the violent crimes hotline at (805) 982-7070 or Ventura County Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477 for those who wish to remain anonymous.
