High School Water Polo Player Found Unconscious At Bottom Of Pool In Chino

CHINO (CBSLA.com) — A water polo team at a high school in Chino reportedly found one of their players at the bottom of a pool during a match Thursday.

Students from Nogales High School team were competing at Don Antonio Lugo High School when the referee pointed out that a player was missing.

Teammates said they saw 16-year-old Alejandro Camacho at the bottom of the pool after he apparently suffered a seizure, CBS2/KCAL9's Bobby Kaple reported.

"It was purple around his face area and he was unconscious," the team's head coach Marco Garcia said.

"I dove in. Me and another player got him. And his dad jumped in, fully clothed, just jumped in and helped us up, helped him up, get his head out of the water," water polo player Jose Mirande said.

Once they got him out of the pool they administered CPR to get the water out of his lungs.

The high school junior regained consciousness and was airlifted from To Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, in Colton.

The team said this isn't the first time Camacho has nearly drowned.

"This has happened before, here, and I was the one who pulled him up that time," water polo player Steven Garcia said. "He didn't look the same [this time]. His mouth was all black and he looked terrible."

Camacho was initially listed in critical condition but teammates say he's on the mend and able to talk.

Camapch is expected expected to make a full recovery.
